[SBB] lingering migrants - and breeding birds

All,

This morning 5/21/07, I again birded Stevens Creek between Highway 101
and Crittenden Lane. Migrant numbers are dwindling, with 1 SWAINSON'S
THRUSH, 1 YELLOW WARBLER, 1 WILSON'S WARBLER, and 3 WESTERN TANAGERS
(including a pair with the male singing in the lone eucalyptus south of
Crittenden Lane) being all I could find. A lingering GOLDEN-CROWNED
SPARROW just north of the creek crossover north of the high tension line
crossing (close to where I saw one on 5/15/07) was likely different from
Jennifer Rycenga's bird just south of Crittenden Lane on 5/17/07.
Fledged young HOUSE FINCHES and CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES were about,
as was a brood of 5 small precocial young MALLARDS.

Yesterday afternoon/evening 5/20/07, a walk at Rancho San Antonio failed
to turn up the Western Screech-Owl at its roost, but I did see a vocal
VAUX'S SWIFT in this area. There was lots of breeding activity in the
park, with many BUSHTIT, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, and DARK-EYED JUNCO
broods, and single broods of CALIFORNIA QUAIL (2 very small young),
SCRUB JAY, OAK TITMOUSE, BEWICK'S WREN, AMERICAN ROBIN, ORANGE-CROWNED
WARBLER, and CALIFORNIA TOWHEE being seen.
