All,
I birded the section of Stevens Creek between Highway 101 and Crittenden
Lane on the way into work this morning 5/15/07. A fair number of
migrants were about, of species expected in mid-May. These included 1
WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE, 2 WARBLING VIREOS, 7 SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, 5 YELLOW
WARBLERS, 4 WILSON'S WARBLERS, and 4 BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS. Out of all
these birds, only one of the Wilson's Warblers and one of the grosbeaks
were singing.
Lingering birds included 8 CEDAR WAXWINGS (expected) and a single
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW (late).
Recently fledged CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES were being fed, and
fledgling BEWICK'S WRENS and HOUSE SPARROWS were following adults around.
Among 4 species of HERON/EGRET was at least one GREEN HERON.
