Last Saturday, I saw a group of about 3 or 4 birds fitting a similar description to those described by Bill Maney. I observed the birds from the boardwalk near the EEC, just south of where the boardwalk meets the levee of A16. The birds landed in a low bush only a short distance away, so I got a brief look at them before they flew away. As Bill descibed, the birds were larger than starlings and were pretty much uniformly dark brown, except for a muddy yellowish face/throat area. There didn't appear to be any white on the wings. I would also add that the each of the birds had a distinct black eyestripe.
My guess is yellow headed blackbirds. Can anyone else venture a guess as to what these might have been given the time of year, location, etc.?
