This morning (Wed, 5/16) I met another birder, Bert Campos, out on Alviso
Salt Pond #16 where we saw a juvenile GLAUCOUS GULL. It was a large
all-pale gull with buffy/biscuit-colored overtones. Its head was
flatish. It had a distinctly bi-colored bill - pink with a black tip, and
its legs were of a lighter pink color. Its eyes were dark. We saw
the gull roosting on the second island which has a white pole sticking up at the
end.
We also noted several female-type YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS associating with
Red-winged Blackbirds in the New Chicago Marsh.
I also saw a migrant W. WOOD-PEWEE in the cottonwoods near the Barn Owl
box.
I did not see any phalaropes on this visit.
