Folks:
This morning, 5/16/07, I stopped by a few places in my sector for the
Palo Alto SBC (only 2+ weeks off) to look for lingering or bizarre
birds. Mostly I didn't find birds: no White-faced Ibis at the
Mountain View Forebay as there was yesterday, no Brant (fat or not),
and no Cackling Goose. Not that they are not around, I just didn't
find them. The Shoreline Lake infirmary seems to be down to two male
and a female SURF SCOTER this summer. I had one GREEN HERON along
the north shore, but no proof of nesting as in past years. A
SWAINSON'S THRUSH called from the shrubbery.
I then walked along the east side of Stevens Creek between Crittenden
Lane and Hwy 101 to look for migrants. I found a single WESTERN
WOOD-PEWEE, two WARBLING VIREOS, a calling SWAINSON'S THRUSH, a
YELLOW WARBER, and 3 WILSON'S WARBLERS. The only songster was one of
the Warbling Vireos. Here, there was another GREEN HERON.
