Pat Kenny and I went up Mt. Umunhum Road this
morning, 5/17/07. We parked at the gate that limits public vehicular
access. There was at least one BLACK-CHINNED SPARROW singing in the large,
steep-sided bowl on the south side of the road. About 8:45 we caught looks
at a singing Black-chinned Sparrow on top of a bush about 100 yards down the
trail towards Bald Mountain (the low, grass-covered hill .5 miles to the
east). Other birds: OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER and WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE in the
same bush, several ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHERs, LAZULI BUNTINGs including 3+
females, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERs. Warblers were ORANGE-CROWNED, and one
each of BLACK-THROATED GRAY, TOWNSEND'S, and HERMIT.
