[SBB] Lunchtime, May 10

Late morning I tried for the roosting Western Screech-Owl at Rancho
San Antonio. I didn't spot it; a person standing right next to the tree
might have contributed to that. I did see a singing male Lazuli Bunting
near the tennis court. (Do they nest this low on the west side of the
valley?)

I then paid a brief visit to the ranger station area of Stevens Creek
Park. There was a good variety of singing birds, especially for noon.
These included a Cassin's Vireo and my first Western Wood-Pewee of the
year; an Olive-sided Flycatcher was heard singing from up above, a typical
location. I also saw a Hummingbird nest (Anna's, I think) in the large
tree on the north side of the road immediately opposite the start of
the creek trail.
                                                                Al Eisner
