There was another passerine fallout in Guadalupe Oak Grove Park today. I
found my FOS Swainson's Thrush, when it answered my "whit" call this
morning. It was in the south east corner on the Villa's property,
offering an excellent view. Singing WILSONS WARBLER 2, PACIFIC SLOPE
FLYCATCHER, ASH THROATED FLYCATCHER 2, BULLOCKS ORIOLE, and BLUE GRAY
GNATCATCHER 2, will probably remain in the park for the summer. WARBLING
VIREO, ORANGE CROWNED WARBLER, WESTERN WOOD PEWEE 2 (quiet), CASSINS
VIREO, TOWNSEND'S WARBLER, and WESTERN TANAGER were brought down by
overnight rain, and may soon depart. Yesterday a singing male LAZULI
BUNTING was in the meadow. VAUX'S SWIFT were seen each day.
At Quicksilver Co. Park's Mockingbird Hill entrance, I birded for a
short time while Lee checked his nest boxes. HUTTON'S VIREO, WARBLING
VIREO, WRENTIT, BLUE GRAY GNATCATCHER, HOUSE WREN, WILSON'S WARBLER AND
HAIRY WOODPECKER were expected. OLIVE SIDED FLYCATCHER and WESTERN WOOD
PEWEE were unusual. Both WWPW and the OSFL were seen on the Virl Norton
trail off the parking lot. A singing LAZULI BUNTING was seen on the New
Almaden Trail. Lee found a nesting WESTERN BLUEBIRD pair with seven
nestling's!!
On to Rancho Canada Del Oro for a quick check of our southern most nest
boxes. Lots of bird song to sort through to find WESTERN WOOD PEWEE,
BLACK HEADED GROSBEAK, TOWNSENDS WARBLER, PACIFIC SLOPE FLYCATCHER,
WILSON'S WARBLER and a quiet YELLOW WARBLER. WHITE THROATED SWIFTS
overhead and another SWAINSONS THRUSH seen on the road near the parking
lot.
