Good evening all...
Went over to PA Baylands to check on the Palm trees. It was fantastic. The
Snowy Egrets were so much fun to watch and listen to. They chased each
other from tree to tree. Brought in sticks for their nests. The
Black-crowned Night Herons were there in force. Over by the Ranger's Station the
Black-crowns are incubating....just all around great nest birding today.
Best bird of the day was a Clapper Rail walking out in the open by the
parking lot across from the interpretive center. It was great to arrive at low
tide (didn't plan that) and watch the rail get a frog and beat the poor thing to
death.....Killdeer are nesting in the closed off parking lot. Saw
three Pheasants...one had no tail feathers, very odd.....
Bonaparte's Gull was my target bird....and yes they were there..... Darn no
Cattle Egret...URGH.....
Also, yesterday I was at Vasona to monitor the Great Blue Herons....Nest 1
and Nest 2 have chicks and were feeding them, Nest 11 may have chicks as twigs
were being brought to the nest. Nest 7, 9 and 12 still
incubating.
Wishing you all good birding and my best regards,
