Re: [SBB] Interesting Peregrine?

Hi SBBers,

This afternoon, after my previous post, I returned to EEC entrance road in
Alviso and found the same juvenile PEREGRINE FALCON perched on the same
steel tower. That is the tower nearest the road by the first boardwalk as
you drive in. With a bulging crop, it is looking comfortable. A different
sun angle and bird position might help observations and it did. I now see
that the upper parts feather edging is mostly buffy, not dingy white as I
said before. Somewhat hard for my eye and scope (60x) to detect but it was
there. I also saw the bird with it's neck somewhat extended and could see
a longish medium width malar that was previously compressed at the bottom
when the neck was relaxed. The malar is not pointy and looks like it may be
squared off at the bottom.

I've received very informative emails on this subject. Primarily about
extra variability due to mixing of bloodlines and possibly subspecies for
the captive breeding programs that were operated for the reintroduction of
the Peregrine. I am also advised that we do get some tundrius subspecies
each winter.
