I made it out to Palo Alto Baylands last evening and early this morning --
good light both times. Nothing unusual last night, but some eye candy in
the setting sun -- the good old avocet, stilt, pheasant combo.
This morning there were more BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS in the trees around
the pond and the ranger's house, and for the first time I saw one carrying
nesting material into one of the palms. There were two male and a female
BUFFLEHEAD in the pond, not usual for there in my experience; I got a
distant photo of one of the males (this is one of the hardest ducks to
photograph, as they really keep a distance, are very small, and have
strongly contrasting plumage.) A GREEN HERON flew across the pond and
roosted for a time in the busiest palm tree, full of BCNHs -- I've posted a
picture. Finally, out by the windsail station a PEREGRINE was on the pylon,
and I've posted two pictures.
My query is about a gull I photoed this morning as it flew by -- Thayer's?

The other pictures mentioned are at the top of my "latest" gallery -- this
morning's first, last night's after them.
