Late yesterday (Sunday) I had two sightings of Short-eared Owl at
Byxbee Park in Palo Alto. The first, at 5:15 PM, was perched briefly
on a post near the ridge-top to the southwest (i.e., toward the
mountains). The second was seen just after sunset, hunting from the
fenceline bordering the dump. I had the impression of different facial
patterns (the first one seemed to have much more white), but because of
the difference in lighting I won't claim two different birds.
I didn't spot any different Geese among About 90 scattered Canadas.
Other raptors were as expected: Norhtern Harrier, White-tailed Kite,
and Red-tailed Hawk.
