[SBB] Palo Alto Baylands spring (pix) and a query

With a beautiful morning, I headed to Palo Alto Baylands to see how the
season is coming along. No rarities seen, but signs of spring -- many
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS in the palms by the duck pond and the trees
around the ranger's house. I didn't count, but may have seen as many as 40.
No egrets yet. An adult COOPER'S HAWK was in one of the eucalyptus by the
duck pond when I arrived shortly after 7. Red-winged Blackbirds were
singing vociferously in the fennel. I photographed an Avocet showing
breeding plumage and a Dunlin without any yet.

A query about a yellow-billed White-crowned Sparrow I've photographed in my
yard (see gallery)-- is it a Nuttall's from over on the coast, as I
assumed, or a Puget Sound bird wintering -- or could it be either?

Pix are at http://www.pbase.com/tgrey/latest .
