SBBirders---
I just made a quick walk to the grocery store from my home near
Loyola Corners to the Andronico's at Foothill and Springer in Los
Altos (9:30 PM, 1 Mar 2007). A smallish, chunky winged creature
blasted in front of me about 3 feet off the ground, just before I got
to Springer. Since there probably aren't any bats of that
description active during this time of year, I figure it had to be a
WESTERN SCREECH OWL. This location is not far from a known breeding
site that former Los Altos resident Linda Lloyd observed in her yard
just across Foothill Expressway in the '70's and 80's.
We last observed the RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH in our yard on February
18. What a treat it was to have that bird coming to our feeder for 6
months.
