I birded at Vasona Lake this morning, walking only short distance from
the dam. The trail was crowded and nearly impossible to navigate. Why go
on a Saturday you ask. I heard an immature Brown Pelican was on the
lake, and found it a few yards from the trail south of the dam. An
Osprey was flying overhead and numerous egrets and herons were seen
here. Black-headed Grosbeak f. feeding begging fledgling and Hooded and
Bullocks Orioles seen north of the dam. Pacific-slope Flycatcher calling
and a family of Western Bluebirds found near YSI.

Lee and I hiked a portion of the new Mayfair Ranch trail in OSA's Rancho
Canada Del Oro Park again this afternoon. Western Bluebirds and Ash
throated Flycatchers are nesting in the meadow and along the trail.
Numerous Huttons Vireos with fledglings, Orange-crowned and Yellow
Warbler seen. Warbling Vireo, Western Wood Pewee, Wrentit and Black
headed Grosbeak were seen or heard. Am. Kestrel pair feeding begging
young in a Sycamore tree behind the barn a mile in on Casa Loma Rd.

Two newly fledged Red-shouldered Hawks were perched together in an oak
tree in Guadalupe Oak Grove Park yesterday. Their nest was over the
parking lot with no view from below. It was worth the wait, they're
beautiful.
