Hi all:
Birds this week --
Lots of juveniles around. Chickadees in abundance,
Western Scrub-jay, White-breasted Nuthatch, Spotted
Towhee, House Finch, Hooded Orioles. Bullock's
Orioles have been very active. No juveniles seen yet.
Wednesday a distant Gold and white bird perched in a
redwood on the east edge of Shadow Cliffs Golf Course
(across the street from the Ranch) had me thinking the
Barn Owl had made a daytime forray.... A few seconds
of contemplation and a helpful dive-bombing crow had
the bird morph into this year's first sighting of a
juvenile White-tailed Kite. No siblings or parents in
sight.
The Barn Owl is visible in the barn most every day;
tours on the half hour.
A singing Yellow Warbler was at the bridge/front
parking lot yesterday and this a.m. A/the Western
Wood-peewee disappeared for a week or so, but has been
calling again this week.
Wood ducks are an elusive memory/mystery.
Good birding,
Bob Power
