[SBB] Lower Stevens Creek, Alviso

Early this afternoon I birded along Stevens Creek from Crittenden Lane
out to the mouth. About ten LEAST TERNS were busily feeding at
Crittenden Marsh. Also (mostly around Crittenden Marsh) were about 30
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, one LESSER YELLOWLEGS, at least 200 WHITE PELICANS,
about 500 SNOWY EGRETS, about 150 GREAT EGRETS, about 50 SEMIPALMATED
PLOVERS, and at least 20 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS. A male CANVASBACK
was with about 300 Mallards in Stevens Creek. Near the mouth of the
creek, on B1 was a female GREATER SCAUP and about 20 RUDDY DUCKS. A male
HOODED ORIOLE briefly perched low on a tower toward the south end of the
walk.

Earlier, in the morning, I birded around Alviso with two beginning
birders. We had three LESSER YELLOWLEGS (and several Greater) at New
Chicago Marsh and a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE on the fence near the railroad
tracks. There were still WILSON PHALAROPES, though not nearly as many as
two weeks ago and now outnumbered by RED-NECKED PHALAROPES. We got good
looks at a Pied-bill Grebe on eggs right in front of the first island on
A16 and at a BLACK SKIMMER sprawling and foraging around the same
island. Nothing else to add to Al Eisner's report today.
