On a midday visit to salt pond A16 in Alviso today (Saturday), I
found one adult RUDDY TURNSTONE on the second island. The two pairs
of apparently-nesting BLACK SKIMMERs continued on the first two
islands. Otherwise, nothing of real note. There were lots of
WESTERN SANDPIPERs, all adults, at least 21 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERs,
and about 60 RED-NECKED PHALAROPEs (all three species in the New
Chicago Marsh). Back near the EEC, a BARN OWL peered at me from just
inside its box entrance.
In the morning, I walked along Coyote Creek north of Montague.
I heard a lot more than I saw, but most of the birds were either
Chickadees or House Finches, and overall species variety was quite
low. The only dispersed bird I found was one WESTERN TANAGER.
