Hi, Mike:
Did you see the eggs? I reported a pair there a week ago, with one of
them apparently incubating. I again saw a pair there today (July 14) --
again, one appeared to be incubating, and the other made one pass at
me. The oddity is that the location was not the same as a week ago --
perhaps 100 feet away. So either the first location was a dry run, or
failed; the other thing which occurred to me is that they might be
brooding young, although it seems early, and there was no evidence.
Some of the Forster's are getting aggressive -- rain gear may be
called for!
Other birds this morning: along the RR tracks, Jim Thomas and I saw
about 500 Wilson's Phalaropes (I noted a few juveniles), give or take 50.
I also had 40 to 50 Red-necked Phalaropes there, and at least 17 more
by the A16 levee. Finally, 5 Snowy Plovers at the last pond on the left
(near the RR junction), including 2 juveniles.
