Folks:
I made some stops today, 1/31/07, at some local birding areas (for
me). At the Geng Road pond in the morning, a male and 2 female
HOODED MERGANSERS were asleep in the pond (in the afternoon they were
sleeping on the shore). Not much at the Palo Alto Baylands, although
there were 100+ Bonaparte's Gulls to look through. There were no
skimmers on Charleston Slough and I saw no Blue-winged Teal in Adobe
Creek. I saw one male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE in the NW corner of
Shoreline Lake. In the overflow parking lot at Shoreline, there were
many Canadas feeding on the lot. When I walked around so I could see
the backside of the nearer hill, I saw an adult and immature SNOW
GOOSE in with a flock of Canadas.
In the afternoon, beyond the Geng Road pond on the Muni GC, were 5
GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and 7 CACKLING GEESE (a mix, I think, of
_minima_ and _leucopareia_).
