Monday I took a lunchtime walk along the San Tomas Aquino
Creek trail, Mission College Blvd up to Great America amusement.
park. Mostly I saw the usual cast: egrets (great and snowy),
coots, mallards, yellow-rumped warblers, and so forth but
thought a couple items were worth sharing:
pair of female common mergansers were swimming in the
creek along with some ducks, below the overpass of the
road the path crosses (forgot the name, sorry), just past
the fire stn. As we stood there to admire them, a kingfisher
flew by, vocalizing, and landed in a tree so we could watch
it. (don't know if it was female or male, without my binocs)
I walked again on Tues--no mergansers, just "the regulars."
The bufflehead continues in the pond next to the rollercoasters.
