Folks:
This morning, 1/24/07, I stopped at a number of spots from the Geng
Road pond in Palo Alto to Shoreline Park and Lake (I also stopped on
the way back this afternoon at Renzel and Geng Road). Frost in the
morning at the Geng Road pond and the only bird of interest was the
female HOODED MERGANSER that is regular here. Few Canadas were
around. On the Shoreline Park overflow lot there were more Canadas,
but no other geese. Shoreline Lake had at least one male BARROW'S
GOLDENEYE, in the northwest corner, as usual. A BURROWING OWL was in
a mound across from Michaels.
This afternoon, I found one CACKLING GOOSE on the levee at the Emily
Renzel Wetlands with hundreds of Canadas. Then, at the Geng Road
pond about 2:30 pm, I hit the trifecta: 5 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GEESE, and adult and an immature SNOW GOOSE, and 8 CACKLING
GEESE. The female HOODED MERGANSER was sleeping on the bank.
