All,
After completing the portion of our Snowy Plover survey on closed refuge lands yesterday 1/13/07, Mike Mammoser, Richard Jeffers, and I continued searching for Snowy Plovers in Alviso by checking areas north of the Alviso Marina. We found one SNOWY PLOVER with SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS in the channel between the northeast corner of Salt Pond A13 and the railroad tracks. Another SNOWY PLOVER an hour later in the impoundment north of the marina may have been the same bird. Single SANDERLINGS were in the impoundment and along the edge of pond A15 and 2 TREE SWALLOWS flew over southeast A12. On the ponds (mainly A10) we tallied 10 HORNED GREBES, 119 REDHEAD, 96 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, and 8 SURF SCOTERS. On nearby pond A16 we found more HORNED GREBES, the male EURASIAN WIGEON, and the two adult ROSS'S GEESE. A YELLOW WARBLER was still near the EEC parking lot.
