[SBB] GBHEs, Vasona and Okaponds

Happy New Year.....

 

I checked Vasona again today for Great Blue Herons, and what a nice surprise, I had three males on nests.  I had checked the nests in December and not one sighting of a GBHE....I had someone check on the nests while I was in Costa Rica and no herons.  I checked the site on Saturday and no herons....so I was very pleased to find three there today.

 

Birds at Vasona: Canada Geese, 1 Cackling Goose, Osprey, Common Mergansers: 11 female and 6 males, Hooded Mergansers: 3 Pairs, Mew Gulls, Killdeer, Black-crowned Night herons, Snowy Egrets, Great Egret, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Northern Flickers, Bluebirds, Robins, Red-tailed Hawk, Cormorants,  Ring-billed Gulls, Ruddy Ducks, Bufflehead, 2 Horned Grebes, Pied-billed Grebes, a million Coots.

 

Birds at Oka Ponds/Campbell Ponds: Ring-necked Ducks, Hooded Mergansers: 2 female and 1male, Mallards, Gadwalls, Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, Ruddy Ducks, Pied-billed Grebes, Coots, Gold and White-crowned Sparrows, Cormorants, Snowy Egrets, Great Egrets, Black-crowned Night Heron, Anna's Hummingbird.
