[SBB] Duck hunting in the bay area

Hi all -

I led a duck hunting trip yesterday where we try and find as many duck species as possible while enjoying everything else that comes into view or within hearing!

A few favorite finds are listed below -

We started in the south bay at Almaden Lake and started our duck list with the several COMMON MERGANSERS found here.  We also enjoyed WESTERN BLUEBIRDS and a HERMIT THRUSH.

We worked our way to the Sunnyvale Water Pollution Treatment Plant and found large numbers of ducks including a EURASIAN WIGEON.  We also enjoyed close views of a preening RED-THROATED LOON. We also found a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE, SAY'S PHOEBE a pair of PEREGRINE FALCONS & a pair of WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS.  EARED, PIED-BILLED and HORNED GREBES were also found here.

Off to Shoreline Lake and Charleston Slough for the BLUE-WINGED, CINNAMON and GREEN WINGED TEALS.  We also found GLAUCIOUS-WINGED and MEW GULLS here. We missed the skimmers but had great looks at the pair of BARROW'S GOLDENEYES.

From here we headed north and were soon out of the county, but we did find another pair of Barrow's Goldeneyes with the male REDHEAD at Redwood Shores.  The last duck species of the day were WHITE WINGED SCOTERS feeding under the San Mateo Bridge.

We ended our day with 94 species of which 21 were ducks.
