[SBB] Santa Clara County Big Day - 1/1/2007

All,

Mike Mammoser and I did a Big Day today 1/1/2007, finding 152 species between 5:15am and 5:54pm. Our list included the local rarities YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER and BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, seen by many others today; unfortunately the Solitary Sandpiper was a no-show when we were there at 3:55pm :(

Dumbest miss was California Quail, but there were many other species that we could have found on our route today that declined to make an appearance.

The cooperative birds (besides the above rarities) included:
BROWN PELICAN - 1 immature soaring over Salt Pond A1
GREEN HERON - 1 at the Geng Road pond
GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE - immatures at Upper Penitencia Creek Park and along Bailey Road across from IBM
