At about 3:30 p.m., Scotty and I saw several EARED GREBES and HORNED GREBES at Shoreline Lake, as well as several other less notable species.
At Byxbee, at about 4:30, we tried to find the short-eared owl and the cackling geese, but didn't find them. We ran into a man who saw a Clapper Rail uncharacteristically wandering around in the marshes, and who had seen 6 Cackling Geese earlier in the day, but it appeared they were gone by the time we arrived. We did see a beautiful WESTERN GREBE in the lake over the hill as well as several AMERICAN PIPITS on the way up the hill along the fence. On the previous day, we saw about 20 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS at Byxbee as well, as well as an AMERICAN KESTREL.
