[SBB] Slate-colored Canadian Rocky Mountain Junco

Today I was fortunate enough to view the Slate-colored Canadian Rocky
Mountain Variant of the Dark-eyed Junco (SCCRMVEJ).
I had call Barbara Harkleroad to ask permission to see the Junco she has
been posting.
As birding COURTESY I provided Barbara all my communication links and my
ABA number so she would feel comfortable allowing me to enter her home.
The Canadian Rocky Mountain Variant of the Dark-eyed Junco is on my life
list.
But I needed the bird for my California list.
Reference Sibley Guide to Birds page 501.
Barbara greeted me at her front door with the SCCRMVEJ is on the ground
feeding > hurry!
So she rushed me into her kitchen pointed to the large pine and the
SCCRMVEJ was available for several seconds with very good lighting.
The black hood on this bird is intense - it is of the darkest shade of
black, here is no reflection or iridescence like we might see in a magpie,
the color absorbs' light, it's black.
Truly a different and very handsome Male Junco.
Later Barbara and I went into her yard and a Red Shoulder Hawk flew out of
the Pine Tree.
So Barbara was able to check off another yard bird today.
