This morning, 14 Feb 07, I went to Almaden Reservoir, parking near Hicks Rd and walking back to the dam. After an uneventful walk there I turned around for the return and within 100 yards flushed the TOWNSENDS SOLITAIRE from the toyon bushes along the edge of the road. This bird remained very cooperatively for the next hour or so with views from as close as 15 feet. Enjoying this bird with me were Bob Reiling, Frank Vanslager, Phil Brown, and Ann Verdi. Roland Kenner and Pat Kenny were arriving as I left but I dont know if they also saw the bird.
Afterwards, I went to the Water District ponds and walked the west side of the Guadalupe River towards hwy 85. I looked across through an opening to the pond under the hwy on the east side, but didnt see the geese that Peggy Don reported from there. However, I did see a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE there with the CANADAS.
