This morning (Tues, 2/13) at around 11:00 am I re-found the TOWNSEND'S
SOLITAIRE initially found by Patty Brown along Alamitos Road
by Almaden Reservoir. I saw the bird at close range almost at
eye-level in a small dead tree along the roadside about 200' closer to the dam
than where Patty and her husband had seen it this morning. This confiding
bird perched quietly allowing good study of its field marks.
Congratulations to Patty on a great find for the Almaden Reservoir
area.
If you're interested in looking for this bird please note parking
restrictions along Alamitos Road. There is no parking on either side of
the road, so you'll need to drive down to Hicks Road and park there and walk
back. When walking along the road, please stay close to the side of the
road as cars can come around the corners at a pretty fast clip and not see
you.
To look for this bird, check among the trees and toyon bushes on the
Quicksilver CP side of Alamitos Road between the dam and a "no swimming"
sign.
Good (and safe) birding to all -
