Hi Birders-
I whipped over to Alviso to get some excellent
Mexican food from the taco truck on First St (it really is excellent). But of
course I stopped at the EEC. No Baird's on the way in, but from the boardwalk I
spotted three Pectoral Sandpipers. They were on the tiny islands separating the
near water from the far water. They stayed put for a while, even giving me time
to get the scope from the car. I was able to see the white stripes on the back,
streaky breast, and orange in the bill. Unfortunately while I wasn't looking,
there was a commotion among the smaller birds there and I couldn't relocate the
Pectorals. Hopefully they'll return. The island on the salt pond was crowded
with terns, gulls, stilts, and pelicans. I could not see the Black Skimmer
chicks.
