Hi,
I realize it's not a rare bird, but seeing so many of one of the largest
north american birds is fantastic. Today at lunchtime there were around
100 WHITE PELICANS wheeling in the air over Guadalupe Slough near the
Radar Tower Pond at the Sunnyvale Water plant. A flock of a dozen
joined them flying right overhead so close I could easily hear their
wing feathers. I felt like I was on the crew of Winged Migration.
In addition there were roughly 131 on the pond.
There was a VAUX'S SWIFT with many VIOLET-GREEN (25+), CLIFF (at least
1) and BARN SWALLOWS (20+) there as well.
A CASPIAN TERN caught a fish in A4 and a GREEN HERON was in the channel
near the entrance.
