All,
This morning Frank Vanslager and I first went to the Gilroy Water Treatment
Facility which was extremely slow, only one slag pond had a small amount of
water in it and a few KILLDEER, MALLARDS and AMERICAN CROWS. The
two ponds near the entrance were overgrown with algae with two
MUTE SWANS, one female CANNVASBACK and ten GREATER YELLOWLEGS being the only
"noteables." We then went to the Pajaro River where we had
a begging juvenile BLUE GROSBEAK being fed by an adult female BLGR (on the
fence just west of the RR tracks and a hundred yards short of the 1/2
sign). The adult male BLGR was then seen flying west where it was
eventually seen on some young trees below a pair of Oak trees, It was then
joined by at least one female/juvenile and was later seen perched at the top of
the northern most Oak tree. As far as we could tell the male did not
sing. The juvenile that was still near the RR tracks then flew to various
perches making a low chip call and eventually flew to trees along nearer
the river and out of sight (BLGR were seen from about 9:55 to 10:20). The
only other "noteables" were young GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS seen along the
fence west of the RR tracks. It was a two train morning.
Take care,
