Good afternoon all....
After reading Dave Weber's post.... I checked my county list and realized I
needed this gull for my list....so...I got directions from Dave (thank you so
much) and went out around 12:30 this afternoon.
I found a small gull (13-14 inches) with a small dark bill.....feeding
quite differently than the other gulls. It was very dainty looking (at
first I thought it was a Sabine's since it's rear end was so high out of the
water). I haven't been able to keep up with the SBB posts, so I am
gathering that this Franklin's was born this year? In the Sibley's it would be
Aug/Sept? I need to go back with my scope but it did have a white marking around
the eye...and a white smudge forehead....Should there be any other field marks I
should look for?
Other birds seen: Lots of White Pelicans, Snowy and Great Egrets, Green
Herons, tons of Cowbirds, Bushtits. Had two Forster's Tern and one Caspian Tern.
Common Yellowthroats, Pied-billed Grebes and Mallards with very small
ducklings....
Wishing you all good birding and my best regards,
Linda Sullivan
