All,
This morning 8/5/07, Steve Rottenborn, Mike Mammoser, and I birded New Chicago Marsh, first working the railroad tracks out to the main line by the Alviso impoundment and then scoping from the levee along the southern edge of Salt Pond A16 north of the EEC.
Birds there today were similar to those reported yesterday, with a juvenile SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER in the pond southeast of the junction of the railroad tracks with the main line tracks (which may or may not have been one of yesterday's birds) and the continuing juvenile BLACK TERN foraging and perching on stakes in Salt Pond A16, perhaps halfway to the north end of the pond. Nesting pairs of BLACK SKIMMERS continue on the first and second islands and four PIED-BILLED GREBES were incubating on nests in A16 as well. Eight LESSER YELLOWLEGS were counted throughout the marsh and good numbers of WESTERN and LEAST SANDPIPERS included a few juveniles of each.
