[SBB] dowitchers

Every year I post photos of Fall dowitchers that provide ID puzzle fodder
for those who like this kind of thing. Two from last night are up at
http://www.pbase.com/tgrey/latest , and I've got more (including detail
shots) at http://www.pbase.com/tgrey/dowitchers07 .

Our local experts can form opinions based on experience. If like me you
aren't an expert, you can still play by looking at sources like Paulson's
Shorebirds of North American, which has a good short treatment of the
subject, and particularly the article by Lee and Birch from Birding last
fall at
http://www.americanbirding.org/pubs/birding/archives/vol38no5p34to42.pdf .

I didn't hear any of these birds call ... ;)
