This morning when I stopped at Stevens Creek Reservoir, I saw 2 Caspian
Terns foraging over the water. After a pair of Red-tailed Hawks flew in for
breakfast, the Caspians got very noisy and their ranks quickly swelled to 6
or more as reinforcements arrived. The Red-tails were angrily chased away.
Two pairs of Common Mergansers, a Clark's Grebe, and several Double-crested
Cormorants swam near the dam, a small flock of Northern Rough-winged
Swallows worked the entire expanse, and a Kingfisher rattled its call
nearby. The Osprey hadn't showed up when I left.
Good birding!
