At Smith Creek today, 10 Apr 07, I had a fairly cooperative male MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER working the undergrowth next to the trail along the creek, while a HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER was working the treetops above it. A lingering LINCOLN'S SPARROW was here as well. Up to 4 BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS and a CASSIN'S VIREO were singing.
Warblers were pretty scarce on the hill behind the fire station, but I did hear some LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCH up there (missed on a visual, though). Two GOLDEN EAGLES soared overhead, one an adult and the other a subadult.
An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was calling from east of Grant Lake, between there and the Canal Trail. A WESTERN GREBE was on Grant Lake, diving repeatedly. It came up once with some weeds in its mouth, as if to display to a mate, but I saw no other aechmos there. A male BUFFLEHEAD was on the lake as well.
