Hi all:
The Snipe Hunters, led by Laurie West-Roberts, tallied
126 species today in a 7 to 7 SCVAS birdathon effort.
Highlights:

Merlin
Osprey w/Breakfast
Wilson's Snipe (2)
Green Heron (2)
Ring-necked Duck (2)
Belgatos Park
Hairy Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
California Thrasher
Orange-crowned Warbler

Unblievable locating of a Hermit Thrush buried behind
shade and leaves, by Laurie and Rick
Warbling Vireo
Black-headed Grosbeak
Band-tailed Pigeon
McClellan Ranch
Hooded Oriole
Barn Owl
Lunch was outstanding
Charleston Slough
Semi-palmated Plover
Common Moorhen
Things got a wee bit dicey here, as the parks staff
were cautioning everyone to go inside/home, anywhere
but birding, due to the Redwood City Sims
Metals/scrapyard fire. Palo Alto Baylands was skipped
as a result.
Shoreline lake
Horned Grebe
Clark's Grebe
Arzino Ranch
Burrowing owl
Alviso Marina
Bonaparte's Gull
Alviso EEC
Cliff Swallow
Calaveras Res.
Bald Eagle
Prairie Falcon -- another unbelievable "behind the
branches" sighting, this time from Sarah Tasker
Rock Wren
Ed Levin
Mary Wisnewski / Bill Walker with the latest Dean
Manley report, leading to:
Lawrence's Goldfinch
Western Kingbird
Melanie O'Brien had an obvious Wood Duck, mixed in
with Mallards at Oka Ponds that the rest of us missed.
Not counted in the day's totals.
Meghan O'Brien spotted more birds faster, better,
sooner, than any of the rest of us with the eagle-eyes
of the young.
Good birding,
don't try this at home,
your results may differ,
Bob Power
