[SBB] Rufous-crowned Sparrow

I ran into Ann Verdi at Quicksilver Co. Park/ Mockingbird Hill entrance
this morning. We spotted a pair of Blue-gray Gnatcatchers finishing
their beautiful lichen covered nest on the Hacienda Trail. Later I found
a tree full of Yellow-rumped Warblers singing in unison. I heard this
same phenomenon at Guadalupe Oak Grove Park this week and reported it
last spring as well.

Birding along the Los Alamitos Creek trail this afternoon, I heard what
I thought was a singing House Wren. Instead, I found was a singing
Rufous-crowned Sparrow near exercise station # 13. This has always been
a lucky spot for me. Several Hooded and Bullocks (male) Orioles were
seen in the same vicinity. I was thrilled to see Mallard ducklings
following their parents along the creek.

As I was watching a male Downy Woodpecker in a Sycamore tree on
Crossview Court, a Coopers Hawk swooped in and clawed at the underside
of the tree branch, missing the Downy. I often see COHA hunting woodpeckers.

A female Hooded Oriole has joined its mate at my backyard Oriole feeder.
The Sharp-shinned Hawk continues to visit, scattering feeding sparrows,
doves and finches.
