Rick and everyone,
There is a consistent location for Eurasian Collared-Doves that I
have not seen mentioned on this list previously. Happy Hollow Park
and Zoo (at Kelly Park in San Jose; on Senter Rd. at Story Rd.):
http://www.happyhollowparkandzoo.org/
This small zoo has an aviary that includes some doves and there are
consistently a few feral (or possibly wild?) E C-D's outside the
enclosure. Originally, I reported this to the keepers, thinking they
were escapees from the zoo's population; however, the zoo staff
claims all their doves are present and accounted for, and the out-of-
aviary doves are all visitors from elsewhere.
The best time to view these doves is after the AM preschool field-
trips have ended (noonish), but before elementary school gets out at
3pm.
I would love to know if these doves are escaped pets or birds that
have bred in the wild.
