I found a Clay colored Sparrow this morning at the Santa Clara Valley Water District. The bird was last seen along the river channel on the west side of the road, feeding on the ground beneath a short row of Sandbar Willow (grayish). It was a bit north of the mid way point. I'll send Bill Bousman a complete description. I was pretty sure of what I'd found but went back to the car for my field guide. I then found the bird again and got prolonged looks. I heard it's flight call and chip call.
I'd seen Ann Verdi earlier and went to get her. We didn't find the bird again and both left. Also seen was an immature Yellow rumped Warbler, imm. White crowned Sparrow and Golden crowned Sparrow was a heard only. A Spotted Sandpiper was feeding along the dam. Dozens of Yellow Warblers were chipping from the Willow trees.
