[SBB] Ruby crowned Kinglets 9-19-06

Guadalupe Oak Grove Park had a surprise for me this evening. I found two Ruby crowned Kinglets along the wooded trail off the parking lot. I walked in a short distance, pished, and four birds flew towards me, two of them RCKI. I wasn't able to see the color of their feet but each had one bold wingbar, skinny legs and a tiny pointed beak. I hung around and eventually heard their call.

I headed up to the ridge as the sun was setting. In several small oak trees I found 4 Western Bluebirds, 6 House Finch, 4 Lesser Goldfinch, 1 Anna's Hummingbird, 1 Oak Titmouse, 2 White breasted Nuthatch, and 1 Huttons Vireo or Ruby crowned Kinglet.

An immature No. Flicker perched nearby was calling. I've noticed fewer No. Flickers in the park each successive year.

Over 20 Lesser Goldfinch flew into the oak trees near the parking lot to roost for the night. Young LEGO were still begging from adults just two weeks ago.
