Re: [SBB] BASW's

Troy,

We have no breeding Bank Swallows in the South Bay. These are migrant
birds that join the post-breeding swallow flocks in bayside spots like
Alviso, Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant, etc. The September
timing is typical, and we have several late September records (even as
late as 1 October in 2003). There also are several late June/July
records that seem to be an earlier post-breeding dispersal (many aged as
juveniles), perhaps from nearer breeding areas (Ft Funston, S.F.?) and
spring migrants mid-April through May.

The bird is always a rarity, though, with perhaps up to 3 or 4 birds or
so a year being found in Santa Clara County.
