I arrived at the end of La Avenida Avenue in Mountain View at 7:35
thanks to a news report of an accident on the Sunol Grade. When I
arrived, Al Eisner was already on scene who told me that the Northern
Parula had already been seen at 7:10 AM this morning just 10 minutes
before Al's arrival. It was in the same alders where Mike Rogers had
found the bird on Saturday at 7:40 AM or so.
Five minutes after my arrival, at 7:40, I spotted the Northern Parula in
the alders along the west side of the lower trail. I followed it around
the branches near the trunk trying to get Al onto the bird. It was the
only bird in the tree. These two alders are 100 yards from the north
end of the trail. Just past these alders on the west side of the trail
is a clump of coyote bush which is opposite a weeping willow tree.
People have been reporting the street as L'Avenida Street, but all the
street signs say La Avenida. My old Thomas Guide shows L'Avenida Street
while www.mapquest.com lists the street name as La Avenida Street.
As I was leaving at 7:55 AM Dean Maney, John Hutz, and Al Eisner were
still looking for the parula.
