[SBB] Shoreline Lake, 9/4

We spent some time at Shoreline on Monday. Fairly quiet afternoon
with a fair bit of wind, but clear. We were greeted by a flight of
about 25 white pelicans soaring on a thermal; not many surprises here
otherwise -- the surf scoter with his females was around (he's now in
full adult plumage). five pied-billed grebes, and the paid of Ruddy
ducks all were easily found, and happily sorted themselves into
species-specific groups to make counting even easier. I only saw two
terns (both forsters), a couple of snowy egrets, a couple of flocks
of canada geese (gee, what a surprise!) and a half dozen double-
crested cormorants.

One thing laurie and I both noticed there was a serious silence in
the bushes; the sparrows seem to be missing. Only thing we found near
the lake were a couple of hummers. (this seems to coincide with the
sparrows around our feeder at home flocking; it looks like they're
about to move out. the oriole families using our feeder this year are
definitely gone, and we had a couple of juvie male bullock's at the
feeder for a while, but they haven't been seen in 10 days now)
