This morning, 9/4/06, Pat Kenny and I went to Sunnyvale Baylands. About 9am
we saw an AMERICAN REDSTART in the cottonwoods that line the path from the
entrance kiosk to the Great Meadow. The bird was in the first 3-4 pairs of
trees past the intersection of the two paths. The undertail and
side-of-breast patches were salmon, not yellow. Otherwise the breast was
light colored, the head dark, no wing patches that we saw. We took it to be
a first fall male.
Other birds included 1 WILSON'S WARBLER, a few each WESTERN TANAGERs and
"WESTERN" FLYCATCHERs, about 10 TOWNSEND'S WARBLERs, and many, say 50,
YELLOW WARBLERs.
