I birded the ponds by Oka Lane in Campbell with my daughter this
morning. Pond 5 had a nice selection of ducks; we saw 7 RING-NECKED
DUCKS, 7 BUFFLEHEADS, 2 RUDDY DUCKS, and 1 female HOODED MERGANSER.
Further on, in the larger ponds across Los Gatos Creek, Ponds 3 & 2
had small flocks of AMERICAN WIGEON and GADWALL (about a dozen total
each). Pond 1 was mostly gulls and coots (couldn't sort the gulls
without a scope). At one point, a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK flew by at
close range with a meal of some sort in its mouth!
Other birds seen:
Black Phoebe
Pied-billed Grebe
Great Blue Heron
Great Egret
Green Heron
Black-crowned Night-Heron
Mallard
Scrub Jay
Bewick's Wren
Yellow-rumped Warblers
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Double-crested Cormorants
Canada Geese
