[SBB] Sage Thrasher in Santa Clara

About 7:30 this morning (10/13/2006) I saw a SAGE THRASHER at Ulistac
Natural Area in Santa Clara. The bird spent over an hour walking on the
lower dirt path next to the Guadalupe River, downstream from the Ulistac
pump station. Just before Frank Vanslager and Bob Reiling arrived around
9:00, the thrasher flew up to the top of the levee and Bob refound it
walking in the grass near the pump station. Around 11:00 Frank, Bob, and I
left to drive to Stevens Creek while Peggy Don was viewing the bird near the
water's edge below the pump station. The bird was very boldly streaked
quite far down its breast and along the flank. It had a buffy wash along
the upper side of the breast and under the tail. The iris was yellow. For
directions to Ulistac see
www.ci.santa-clara.ca.us/park_recreation/pr_ulistac.html.

At Stevens Creek south of Crittenden Lane there was not much activity late
in the morning. Bob managed to find the male ORANGE BISHOP for us in the
reeds north of the Crittenden Lane bridge.

Take care.
Pat Kenny
