[SBB] A "new" Ruff and Eurasian Wigeons

All,

This morning Frank Vanslager and I had two REEVES out past the curve in the RR tracks in New Chicago Marsh [a couple hundred yards from it's junction with the tracks that go into Alviso].  The Ruff on the south side of the RR track was one of the usual healthy females [no limp] in full basic plumage.  The "new" Reeve, on the north side of the tracks, is a bird that with exception of the head and neck was in full juvenile plumage with a very bright scaly look with bright rufous edged tertials and coverts.  This bird also had bright yellow legs and a lot of orange in the bill (near the base).  Unfortunately this bird liked to feed in the pickleweed and was often lost to sight.  A SNOWY PLOVER continues on the eastern edge of the pond at State & Spreckles, the OSPREY was in a tree on the edge of the channel past the curve in the EEC entrance road [being harassed by crows trying to get some of it's fish] and a PREGRINE FALCON was in a nearby power tower.  We once again had a DUNLIN [several were seen today] with retained black belly markings while the rest of the bird was in basic plumage.  We were unable to re-find the Cattle Egret in Arzino ranch or the Yellow-headed Blackbird among the hundreds of quick moving Blackbirds the fields west of Disk Dr in Alviso.  We then went to the Sunnyvale Water Treatment facility where the smallest Gulls seen were RING-BILLED GULLS and there were no Terns.  Later while scanning the western pond Frank spotted a partial eclipse plumaged male EURASIAN WIGEON.  After viewing the bird in his scope I managed to get my scope on the bird but then Frank said that it was flying [north] and I realized that this was a second partial eclipse plumaged male EUWI.  Several seconds later it also flew north with a small flock of AMERICAN WIGEONS.

Take care,
Bob Reiling
